Zygomatic Dental Implants
Zygomatic or Zygoma (Cheekbone) Dental Implants are typically utilised when there is insufficient bone in the upper jaw for conventional dental implants. The benefit of using Zygomatic Implants is that the cheekbone is very strong and hence it is usually possible to make a bridge on the same day as the surgery. Typically the Zygomatic Dental Implant is placed as part of an All on 4 treatment plan.
A single Zygoma Implant can be used where there is a unilateral atrophic maxilla. If two zygoma implants are used on both left and right sides with 2 anterior conventional implants - this is called Hybrid Zygoma treatment. If two zygoma implants are used side by side, this is called Double Zygoma treatment. And finally for severely atrophic maxillas, 4 to 6 zygoma implants may be used (Quad Zygoma Surgery).
Frequently after Zygomatic Dental Implant Surgery, a buccal fat pad (from your cheek) will be mobilised to cover the zygomatic implant for better healing. (video below)
To understand more about your jaw condition, I will require a CT scan of your jaw and will be able to confirm suitability and plan surgery for you.
During your consultation, I will evaluate your problems and inform you of various treatment options. If you wish to proceed, kindly let my team know and they will arrange a time and date for the procedure. Most zygomatic dental implants placed by me at Nuffield Dental can be performed under Local Anaesthesia, General Anaesthesia or intravenous sedation. (as requested by nervous patients)
My first zygoma dental implant patient was in England in 2012. I have had the honour of performing Singapore's first and second quad zygoma case in 2018 and have performed a large case series (fully documented) of zygomatic implant treatment in Singapore till date. In December 2020 I became a member of a very specialised international group: www.zagacenters.com and www.zygomaticimplants.org focussed on excellence towards international standards in Complex Oral Rehabilitation using Zygomatic Implants.
I have done the largest case series of Zygomatic Implants in Singapore and currently do the largest number of Nobel Biocare All on 4 Full Mouth Rehabilitation in Singapore. (verified)
The placement of Zygomatic Implants is a complex procedure which requires rigorous training and a firm understanding of potential risks/ complications and especially how to manage them. I have been personally trained by Dr Paulo Malo, Professor Chantal Malevez and Dr Ruben Davo amongst other luminaries who have contributed to my Zygomatic Implant Training.
I am the director of ZAGA Centre Singapore, and a member of ZygoPro.
